How to Choose a Smart Glasses OEM/ODM Partner: 9 Checks
A smart glasses project fails in one of five places: certification, schedule, cost, quality or communication — and all five trace back to the partner selection. The good news is that every one of those risks is checkable before you commit tooling money. This guide turns a two-week evaluation into nine concrete checks, each with a number you can verify against a datasheet or a factory visit.
The baseline numbers to hold in your head: working prototypes in 14 days after spec freeze, MOQ from 100 pcs per SKU, CE certification delivered in 4–12 weeks, and a mass-production lead time of 30–45 days. A candidate that cannot commit to those three windows in writing is already disqualified — no matter how the sales call went.

Nine Checks That Filter Out Nine Classes of Failure
1. Certification & Quality System
Ask for the ISO9001 certificate and a per-model list of CE, FCC, BQB and UN38.3 documents. A CE file for smart glasses is a stack: RED 2014/53/EU radio, EMC, LVD, RoHS and GPSD. A partner that ships it with the order has run the tests; one that promises it later has not.
2. Prototyping Speed
Working samples must arrive in 14 days after spec freeze — not CAD renders, not a video. Fast prototyping compresses your iteration loop, and pre-compliance testing during prototyping saves 2–4 weeks off the certification timeline.
3. MOQ Flexibility
MOQ from 100 pcs per SKU lets you validate a market before committing to volume. Confirm the MOQ is per SKU, not per program, and that the same line scales from pilot run to 50,000+ units without re-tooling.
4. Complete Process Chain
The eight in-house stages — ID design, structure, optics, SMT, assembly, test, certification, shipping — must exist under one roof. A trading company will outsource four of them; a factory runs them all, which is why Dongguan's chain runs from sketch to finished product without leaving the city.
5. Certification Delivery
CE takes 4–12 weeks end to end: 4–6 weeks for a simple audio SKU, 10–16 for a camera or display model. Ask who manages the test labs, when the clock starts, and whether pre-compliance is included in the quoted fee.
6. Platform Support
You need chip-platform choice — Qualcomm, MediaTek or Unisoc — plus SDK and OTA so your app, not the vendor's, owns the customer. A single-platform house locks your roadmap to one chip vendor's pricing and roadmap.
7. Communication & Response
Time zones and language gaps surface on day one of a crisis. Set the bar: RFQ response within 24 hours, a 1:1 engineer contact, bilingual support, and an NDA signed before you share specs. Response speed during evaluation predicts response speed during production.
8. Cost Transparency
Ask for reference wholesale bands — for audio frames the market range is roughly $30–80 — and an itemized split of BOM, NRE, tooling and certification. If the factory quotes only a lump sum, you will discover the line items as change orders.
9. Factory Audit
Visit on-site (Shenzhen for R&D, Dongguan for manufacturing) or run a live video walkthrough: SMT lines, the clean room, test stations and traceability records. A factory that shows you the floor without a script is a factory that can ship what it quotes.

Use this table as the scoring sheet for every shortlisted partner. The right-hand column is a pass/fail bar, not a wish list — a candidate that fails three or more rows will cost more in rework than any price advantage on the BOM.
